In November of 2007 I had begun to seek out a new chapter of my life, not knowing what, but positive that I would find myself again.
Having lived in Canada for 5 years as a teenager and then moving to Belguim and then Germany briefly through work I knew there would be somewhere that I would find and call home, its was just a case of finding it...
The loss of my Grandparents hit me hard and being so close to them left me with a void that took a long time to heal. I didn't have the usual family upbringing and they were very much a large part of why I am who I am.
I'd originally chosen to try Austria however the Company that I was in discussions with weren't offering me quite what I expected and the thought of sacrificing another risk moving abroad again for a somewhat similar climate to the UK put me off.
Having known little about Greece other than a trip to Malia in July 2000, which to be fair was just another unnoficial British Island with the same sad and sorry mentality of Blackpool in mid season, I decided to step into the unkown and look into the possibilities that may possibly await me In Greece.
Work was relatively easy to find on the Islands however this didn't appeal to me in the long run as I sought a more permanent fixture. Somewhere that I could chose to adapt and understand the culture, and maybe come to feel at home in.
After throwing caution to the wind, I chose to fly to Greece with nothing more than a couple of suitcases and the clothes that I was wearing and ended up staying in an area called Exarheia.
If your Greek or have explored Greece you'll know that Exarheia is like a small Alien citadel, so far removed from my humble country background, yet desperately thriving with life and the madness you come to expect in Greece. For me, It was he equivalent to stepping into another world, devoid of similarity, laws or reason.
When I arrived, I had originally accepted a job in Skiathos, hoping that something else would come up in the meantime as well as having a backup job in Zante as a DJ just in case. Working on the principal that either way, I'd at least be able to eat and get a tan for a change.
When I arrived I decided to write a small blog of my experiences, this is my story so far...
